The Spark of R&T CrossFit: From Sales to Fitness
My journey to open R&T CrossFit started back in 2013, when I first discovered CrossFit. At the time, I worked in a high-pressure sales job, dealing with long days and long nights. My weight had climbed to 260 lbs, and I was determined to return to my “playing weight.” After a few years of dedication to CrossFit and making essential changes to my nutrition, I reached my goal weight of 205 lbs—and I’ve maintained it ever since. This transformation inspired me to help others achieve their own fitness and health goals through CrossFit, nutrition guidance, and personal training.
Creating R&T CrossFit: Finding the Perfect Gym Space
Starting a gym, as I quickly learned, isn’t as easy as just having an idea. One of the biggest challenges was finding the right location. After almost two years of searching, I found a spot that met our needs and signed the lease in July. After three months of intensive preparation—doing much of the buildout myself—we opened our doors in October. Through this experience, I discovered that patience and determination are key in building a fitness space that feels like home to our members.
Bridging the Gap in Fitness: The R&T CrossFit Difference
What sets R&T CrossFit apart from other gyms is our commitment to coaching. From day one, I wanted R&T to be a place where members could receive the best guidance, whether they’re beginners or seasoned athletes. Our approach to personal training within a group setting ensures that each member not only learns safe and effective movement patterns but also feels motivated and accountable. To me, a gym is only as strong as its coaching, which is why we hold high standards to ensure you’re progressing toward your fitness goals.
Overcoming Initial Fears
Starting R&T CrossFit wasn’t without its fears. I wondered, would people even want to join? But as I began working with members and showing them results, I saw how impactful our approach to fitness could be. Whether members came in to lose weight, improve their technique, or enhance their overall fitness, R&T has become a place where real, measurable change happens. When you treat people well, genuinely care about their success, and provide high-quality training, they respond. Our members’ progress and achievements speak for themselves.
CrossFit for Everyone
One common misconception about CrossFit is that it’s too intense or only for people who are already fit. But at R&T, we believe CrossFit is for everyone. We’ve had members join who struggled with basic movements initially, like stepping up on a curb. Over time, they experienced incredible changes, from improving their mobility to getting off medications and reaching new levels of fitness. With the right coaching, CrossFit can be a pathway to better health for anyone, regardless of their starting point.
Passion and Support: The Foundation of Success
Building R&T CrossFit has taught me that passion and support are essential to success. Yes, starting a gym has its challenges, but when you have a genuine love for what you do and the support of a great community, anything is possible. I encourage anyone with a passion for fitness, health, or any goal to take that leap. It may be intimidating, but the journey is rewarding.
